NCCOS Organizational Structure
 
The National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS) conducts and supports research, monitoring, assessments, and technical assistance to meet NOAA’s coastal stewardship and management responsibilities. NCCOS was formed within the National Ocean Service (NOS) in March 1999 as the focal point for coastal ocean science. Each of its five centers has specific capabilities and research expertise in coastal and ocean issues. Three of the centers have on-site research facilities, while two centers conduct research through analyses of field data or sponsored extramural research. See Organization Chart below.

NCCOS Headquarters, as well as the Centers for Sponsored Coastal Ocean Research and Coastal Monitoring and Assessment, are located in Silver Spring, MD; while the Center for Coastal Environmental Health and Biomolecular Research has facilities in Charleston, SC and Oxford, MD; the Center for Coastal Fisheries and Habitat Research has facilities in Beaufort, NC and Seldovia (Kasitsna Bay), AK; and the Hollings Marine Laboratory is located in Charleston, SC. The organization has approximately 175 NCCOS federal employees and as many contractors, partners, and students at its six locations. Follow the links below for more information on each Center.
