DOT Hazardous Materials Training
The NOAA ECSD Training Team annually offers web_based DOT HAZARDOUS
MATERIALS TRAINING to all interested NOAA employees who have a need for
this training. Employees requiring DOT hazardous materials training must
be trained every 3 years. This training is provided via the internet
by North Carolina State University.
The purpose of the course is to provide a comprehensive overview to
the field of hazardous materials transportation. The course will provide
general awareness training, including identification of hazardous materials
marking, labeling and packaging, completion of shipping papers, placarding
and other function specific and safety topics. The course includes testing
of participants as required in 49 CFR 172.702. After completing this
course, the participants should be able to:
_locate and use the Federal hazardous materials regulations;
_properly label and mark hazardous materials containers for shipment;
_complete Bill of Lading for hazardous materials;
_select proper packaging for hazardous materials;
_understand the vehicle placarding requirements; and
_develop appropriate emergency response information to accompany shipments.
Each module of the course
is designed to be completed within one week, with an additional week
of review and "make_up" time. This
allows participants to finish the course in a five week period. The course
is designed to take approximately four hours total to complete. |
