UPGRADE YOUR FACILITY

NEW INFORMATION HERE?  This info is very unique to the Postal Service...

Upgrades to existing equipment is one strategy the Postal Service is adopting to reduce energy usage and associated costs. Funding is available from Headquarters for projects which qualify.

An example of how upgrading a facility can result in significant cost/energy savings is Ted Chin, San Francisco P&DC - Ted Chin was honored as an "Energy Champion" because he has demonstrated a continuing commitment to reducing energy costs for the U.S. Postal Service. He has reduced energy consumption in the three-building, 730,000 sq. ft complex by 25 percent over the last ten years, despite the addition of new equipment. These savings were accomplished through projects such as replacing lighting fixtures with more energy-efficient assemblies; installing energy-efficient motors on air handlers and pumps, installing sensors to shut off lights when they are not needed, and installing a new energy management computer system.

NOAA has several sources of funds available for energy-efficient retrofit projects. These funding sources are shown below:

Funding Sources for Energy Projects
Source Amount ($M)
EMP managed capital account $15
EMP managed expense account $5
CFC chiller replacement program $17
Estimated spending by 85 PCs @ $100,000 each $8.5
Estimated spending by 11 areas @ $1 million each $11
Total annual in-house funding $56.5

Project Funding Criteria

  • Must be Energy-Efficiency related
  • Must have a payback of 5 years of less
  • Must have a Return-on-Investment of 20%
